Neck Pain and Treatment

As chiropractors in Portland, we are used to treating patients for neck pain. It’s one of the most common complaints we hear. In today’s blog, we’ll discuss what causes it and how we treat neck pain here at Parkside Clinic.

Let’s first tackle the causes of neck pain. Neck pain is commonly caused by injury or stress to the structures of the neck, including the muscles, joints, and nerves. This can happen as a result of acute injury, repetitive activities, or postural stresses.

Symptoms of neck pain include stiffness, painful movements of the head or neck, or an achiness that can also lead to headaches.

Neck pain is one of the most common forms of musculoskeletal pain and is one that we provide care for often at Parkside Clinic. It is often characterized by pain and reduced quality of life, and can worsen with time if the causes are not corrected.

You should schedule an appointment with us anytime you’re experiencing neck pain. It’s important it’s examined by a qualified physician who will evaluate and diagnose why one has such symptoms. Most causes are benign and treatable, leading to excellent outcomes of less pain and better function. Occasionally, x-rays are needed to rule out more serious conditions.

For neck pain treatment, our patients in Southeast Portland receive soft tissue massage, chiropractic manipulation or mobilization, stretches and exercises, and suggestions for improving postural stresses (changes to positions of sitting at the desk in front of the computer, for example). Usually a series of a few treatments will decrease pain, improve function, and lead to better quality of life.

We have a toolkit of preventative measures! This includes stretches, exercises to strengthen muscles, and addressing time at computer/devices. These are just a few of the many options. Contact us today to schedule an appointment for your initial exam.
